Solutions : Wide Area Data Services

Wide Area Data Services

The term Wide Area Data Services encompasses more than file servers across the WAN - Wide Area File Services, WAN Optimization, and Application Acceleration are core WDS services. SmartData has partnered with the leader in WDS –Riverbed Technology. Riverbed’s goal: To provide LAN like access to data and applications anywhere throughout the enterprise network, enabling real-time collaboration for users in branch offices and mobile worker all over the world. A typical enterprise has a heterogeneous mix of data and applications moving across its network to remote sites. Riverbed creates efficiently distributed enterprise data flow with completely centralized IT infrastructure.

KEY BENEFITS:

  • Eliminates 60% to 98% of WAN traffic

  • Optimizes all WAN traffic, both TCP and UDP

  • Enables transparent deployment and centralized management

  • Improves Microsoft Exchange email attachment transmission by up to 54x and reduce traffic by up to 97%

  • Optimal encryption of traffic between Riverbed appliances – standards included are AES128, 192 and 256 bit

KEY STATISTICS
According to a BPM report, 75% of businesses see increases in remote workers, while 50% of businesses have missed business opportunities because of slow communications

In a recent IDC survey of 12 companies of different sizes that had deployed Riverbed Technologies, on average, companies achieved IT budget savings of $46,719 per 100 users in hardware, software, and bandwidth costs.

In the same study, IDC found increased productivity time of 7.4% or 10.6 hours annually.

IDC also found that companies were able to reduce the number of users supported by each full-time IT employee by 5% which translated into average annual savings of $4,848 per 100 users.

The growth in mobile office workers is putting tremendous demands on IT as it struggles to deliver real-time performance to mobile staff.
